Information for Researchers
We invite researchers to attend DRAiSY with an idea for a research study that they want feedback on. The group can also provide advice on a specific aspect such as recruitment or participant information sheets.
You will need to contact the group in advance on draisy@sheffield.ac.uk to book a space at the meeting.
The group:
especially prefer to hear about a study in the early stages so that they can help inform ideas from near the beginning.
appreciate researchers returning in the future to provide any updates.
is usually attended by between 6 and 12 people affected by dementia in one way or another. This includes people living with dementia, people caring or have formerly cared for a person with dementia and people with a special interest in dementia.
is chaired by a University staff member with experience of working with people living with dementia.
is administered by a staff member from the Clinical Research Office at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals.
Top tips:
You will be allocated a 25 minute space which includes time for your presentation and for discussion. You will need to think carefully about what you hope to gain from attending the group and remain focussed to make the best use of the group expertise.
The group respond best to a short presentation that is visual and uses lay language. Ideally it can help to present for a few minutes and then invite discussion around a specific question, and then present for another few minutes and invite further discussion.
Many group members will easily engage in discussion, some people may need more time to respond and it may be helpful for you to be attentive to non-verbal as well as verbal feedback.
The group chairperson will take the lead on facilitating discussions and giving all group members the opportunity to contribute.
The chairperson will keep you to time as our meeting is often busy and there is no space for presenters to overrun. If you feel that your topic requires longer than 25 minutes then please discuss with the group draisy@sheffield.ac.uk before booking onto the agenda.
The group administrator will keep detailed notes that will be sent to you following the meeting. You will be sent a link after the meeting to complete an evaluation of your visit. Feedback is used to share with group members and improve future meetings.
