Visitor information & how to get involved
Members are invited to attend quarterly meetings and will receive quarterly updates via email or letter about group activities.
You do not need to have lots of research knowledge or experience to become a member of the group.
It helps if you have in inquiring mind and can use your experiences of living with dementia or caring for someone with dementia.
We always welcome new members, and the group are very friendly and supportive of one another.

Meeting information
The meeting is chaired by a staff member experienced in working with people living with dementia.
When meeting in person as a group, the meeting lasts from 11am to 2pm, you will have refreshments on arrival and a sandwich lunch is provided.
Four researchers attend each meeting and all have 25 minutes to present their research topic and invite questions and discussions from the group.
Two researchers attend in the morning, then we have a 30 minute lunch break before the other two researchers attend in the afternoon.
The chair will make sure that everyone has the chance to contribute, and ensure that everyone understands what is happening and feels comfortable.
The meeting is held at the University of Sheffield in a building called across the road from the Royal Hallamshire Hospital. Click here for a map and directions.
Sometimes it helps to attend the meeting before deciding whether to join more regularly. This gives you a chance to see what happens and decide if it is for you.
By becoming a member of DRAiSY, you can genuinely contribute to the future of dementia research.
We also give updates on research taking place across South Yorkshire for people affected by dementia.
